EFBWW (European Federation of Building and Woodworkers), EFFAT (the European Federation of Food, Agriculture and Tourism Trade Unions), and ETF (European Transport Workers’ Federation) will join in a first ever joint demonstration outside the European Parliament in Strasbourg, on Tuesday, 17 September 2024. The demonstration will gather more than 700 workers.

 

This demonstration, scheduled from 14:00 to 16:00, aims to highlight urgent demands for an EU-binding initiative on labour intermediaries and fair working conditions across subcontracting chains.

 

Following the demonstration, a hearing inside the European Parliament will take place from 17:00 to 18:45.
The event will focus on testimonies from workers affected by exploitative subcontracting practices and unscrupulous intermediaries and will have the participation of MEPs from several political groups.

Objectives of the Demonstration:

The demonstration and subsequent conference are organized to urge the newly elected European Parliament to prioritise the creation of an EU-binding initiative that:

 

Ensures equal treatment across subcontracting chains.
Regulate labour intermediation, including the prohibition of intermediaries in posting.
Enhances inspection mechanisms to protect workers' rights.
 

Participation:

Over 700 workers affiliated to EFBWW, EFFAT and ETF sectors are expected at the event from all over Europe. The event will also feature speeches from representatives of the three federations, trade union leaders, MEPs and workers.

 

Media Access and Coverage:

Members of the press are invited to cover both the demonstration and the hearing. This event presents an opportunity to engage with trade union leaders, participating workers, and MEPs supporting the cause.
